February and we are still in the grasp of winter. The winter celebrations seem so far away and the occasional warm day has us longing for spring. The garden appears bereft as the Eucalyptus trees were removed just before Christmas. In my head, however, are plans a plenty. If nothing else my compost bins, all four of them, and the wormery, are flourishing. I hold out great hopes for the garden this year.
Mean while I cheer my self with the local countryside, where big skies and long dykes still hold mystery. The photograph above was taken on a country road between Thorney and Eye in the fens. The road is straight but punctuated with junctions and the occasional round about but it is a welcome alternative to the A47. I imagine how life was many years ago in these wetlands when villages such as Thorney and Eye were oasis in this boggy land.
